Are you an ecologist with a passion for collaborative ecological restoration programs?
The Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR) is looking for a Forest Restoration Project Supervisor (EG-04) to serve as the scientific lead on the SḰŦÁMEN QENÁȽ,ENEȻ SĆȺ project. You will be joining a diverse team that is working towards sustained recovery of the forest ecosystem on Sidney Island, which has been highly degraded by decades of over-browsing by deer.
In this role you will work closely with Parks Canada staff, local residents, First Nations, and other project participants to implement forest restoration and wildlife management activities. Specifically, you will be working to design a deer management plan for Sidney Island, coordinating removal of invasive plant species and planting of native plants.
Each day will bring diverse opportunities and experiences while you work towards the implementation of restoration activities. Some days will be spent in the field leading restoration activities, while other days are spent in the office, developing permit applications, managing data, and reporting on project activities.
Duties will include:
• Contribution to writing impact assessments for planting and protecting native plants.
• Coordinating diverse groups of people to plant native plants.
• Coordinating contractors and staff during invasive plant removal.
• Direct contracted demographer during development of deer population model.
• Collaboratively develop deer management plan for Sidney Island.
• Contribute to monitoring of forest health measures.
• Conduct vegetation surveys in deer enclosures, as well as tree seedling surveys to quantify browse pressure.
• Assist with project reporting.

📁OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• You will be required to work irregular hours, overtime, shift-work, weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager. Compensation will be as prescribed in the Collective Agreement and/or Terms and Conditions of Employment applicable to you.
• You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains, weather conditions and by various means of transportation in the performance of the duties.
• You must be willing to work from various locations.
• You will be required to wear a uniform and prescribed protective equipment (PPE) while performing your duties. In this case, Parks Canada will provide you with the uniforms and PPE you require in accordance with the Parks Canada Uniform Policy.
