Duties

The Visitor Facilities Attendant position is responsible for the cleaning and basic maintenance of multiple office spaces and visitor use areas in Fort Malden NHS. You will be working in Parks Canada buildings, site spaces, as well as other public-use areas. Duties include:

- light maintenance tasks and minor repairs (such as replacing light bulbs, hardware replacement, painting, landscape/lawn maintenance, etc).
- the daily cleaning of staff/office buildings, site washrooms, grounds cleaning, grounds care, litter picking, and emptying of trash and recycling receptacles.
- Interaction with site visitors to provide information and direction.

Fort Malden National Historic Site sits along the banks of the Detroit River in Amherstburg, Ontario. This historic setting includes remnants of the fortifications from the War of 1812 and Rebellions of 1837-38, as well as later periods in the site’s history. The successful candidate(s) will be working both indoors and outdoors on the heritage grounds.

We are currently seeking to fill one Visitor Facilities Attendant position at Fort Malden NHS. We are looking for a passionate and visitor focused team member who will work with others to provide awesome service to visitors at the site. 🎓 Education:

ED1: Successful completion of secondary school education, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EX2: Experience with light/minor maintenance tasks;
EX3: Experience in customer service or visitor interactions (responding to questions, directing customers or visitors to information, etc);
EX4: Experience maintaining and restocking supplies.

🔍Operational Requirements:

- You must be willing to work shift-work, including evening, weekends, and statutory holidays;
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
- You must be willing to work outdoors in varying temperatures and inclement weather;
- Parks Canada prohibits smoking in the workplace.
- You must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- You must be able to perform physical tasks involving bending, twisting, ladder climbing, etc.
