Duties

Riding Mountain National Park is looking for someone to lead geomatics including mapping, spatial analysis and data management support services to all Riding Mountain field unit program areas.

Work environment

Riding Mountain National Park is located in Treaty 2 Territory, the Anishinabe homelands, where we work with the Coalition of First Nations with interests in Riding Mountain National Park to foster positive and collaborative relationships. Riding Mountain National Park is located approximately 3.5 hours northwest of Winnipeg. Protecting 3,000 square kilometers of wilderness.

Approximately 350,000 people visit Riding Mountain National Park each year. Our dynamic and diverse staff protect and present the park. We provide visitors with quality and memorable experiences during each season of the year.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate (permanent) full-time position on-location in Riding Mountain National Park in the Resource Conservation department.

This process may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, linguistic requirements, or work locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
1) Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in geomatics, geography, cartography or other discipline relevant to geomatics;
OR
2) Graduation with a degree from a recognized university and: a diploma or certificate in geomatics from a recognized college or university, or completion of 3 geomatics courses from a recognized college or university;
OR
3) An acceptable combination of two years post-secondary program, training and experience in a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience in developing, managing and implementing geomatics tools and products.
• Experience using Geographic Information Systems - GIS (ESRI, ArcGIS, QGIS) as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
• Experience providing geomatics advice to decision makers.
• Experience finding, evaluating, and acquiring data, managing data quality, conducting GIS analyses, and producing output tailored to specific audiences.

Additional Experience
• Experience in managing a geomatics and/or GIS program, or projects, including supervision of staff, contract management, and/or project management.
• Experience managing field data collection technology for the purposes of acquiring data (e.g. tablet programming, developing download protocols and interfacing with database systems).
• Experience in developing data management plans, protocols, and process.

• Knowledge of geomatics methodologies, systems, standards, and tools.
• Knowledge of database design (e.g. ESRI geodatabases, MS Access, Geopackages).

• Ability to conduct needs analyses, recommend priorities, prepare plans and strategies, and implement geomatics systems, standards, and tools.
• Ability to communicate concepts and ideas graphically and in writing, to synthesize background information and historical data, and prepare briefings/reports to support findings.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues/problems.
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, networks, external partners, and stakeholders.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willing and able to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required.
• Willing and able to wear a Parks Canada uniform as required.
• Willing and able to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.

• Possession of a valid class 5 Driver’s License (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted).
