Work environment

The summer work environment in the Kluane region offers a mix of fieldwork and office tasks. Our team is involved in a variety of projects, including monitoring lakes, kokanee salmon, Dall's sheep, and moose, as well as studying the effects of climate change on plant life and ensuring the safety of both staff and park visitors. From June to August, a significant portion of our time is spent collecting vegetation data in forest and alpine environments.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to hire one (1) full-time term position from May 2025 to October 2025.

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, or linguistic requirements both within the same region and throughout other parts of the country.

EDUCATION
🎓 Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental or natural sciences (e.g., biology, ecology, geology) or another discipline relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of two years of post-secondary education related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g., biology, ecology, geology) with training and experience in a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
🔷 EG-02 and EG-03
✅ Experience working and/or travelling in varied terrain, weather conditions, backcountry locations and by various means of transportation
✅ Experience collecting data/samples and using a variety of data/sample collection equipment
✅ Experience using a variety of computer applications for data entry, data management, and report writing (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access, Survey 123 or Field Maps)

✅Experience participating in at least two (2) of the following phases of field research or monitoring projects:
🔹Project design (e.g., planning or revising sample site selection, location, and sample frequency)
🔹Logistics (e.g., planning, preparing, or organizing equipment, travel, or food for field projects or
outdoor activities)
🔹Defining data/sample collection requirements (e.g., developing methods for collecting samples or writing protocols)
🔹Data/sample analysis using statistical software, 'R', or Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS or QGIS)
🔹Preparing technical or scientific reports (e.g., field protocols, fieldwork report writing, and preparing material for presentation to partners and the public)

Conditions of employment

✅ Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance
✅ Possess and maintain a valid Yukon class 5 driver's license or equivalent
✅ Undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks
✅ Valid Standard First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate

OPERATIONAL REQUIRMENTS
✅ Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
✅ Willingness and ability to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations, and by various means of transportation
✅ Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
