The Geomatics Technician provides geomatics technical services, including mapping, spatial analysis and data management support for all program areas at Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park.
The duties will include, but will not be limited to, developing, managing, and implementing geomatics tools, projects, and products, and the position will be responsible for acquiring, evaluating, and processing data, conducting GIS analysis and producing GIS products tailored to specific audiences. Participation in cross-functional programs and projects may be required, as needed.
Bruce Peninsula National Park (BPNP) and Fathom Five National Marine Park (FFNMP) are located at the tip of the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. BPNP is characterized by shoreline cliffs plunging into the turquoise water of Georgian Bay, large tracts of forest, and a mosaic of habitats home to black bears, rare reptiles, ancient cedar trees, orchids and ferns. FFNMP is Canada’s first national marine park, and known for its deep freshwater ecosystem, ancient rock formations, cliff edge forests, historic shipwrecks, and orchid species. Together, these two parks protect complex ecosystems in the heart of the Great Lakes, and each year welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors who come for inspiration, recreation and connecting with nature.
The Resource Conservation team is responsible for delivering programs that include ecological integrity monitoring, active ecosystem management, species at risk protection and recovery, environmental impact assessment, and ecological restoration. Resource Conservation staff also support the field unit in such activities as research permitting, providing scientific advice and support to park managers, working with external partners, and contributing to visitor programs and incident response operations.
This process will be used to staff one indeterminate (permanent) full-time position on-site at Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park within the Resource Conservation department.
This process may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, linguistic requirements, or work locations.
