Duties

The management and supervision of correctional operations within a federal correctional institution, including security and case management activities performed by correctional staff related to the care, custody, control and reintegration of inmates, inmate services within and outside of the Institution and the protection of the public.

A Correctional Manager (CM) at the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has several key responsibilities:

1️⃣ Operational Management: Overseeing daily operations within the institution, including security measures, inmate movement, and emergency response.
2️⃣ Staff Supervision: Managing and supporting correctional officers and other staff, ensuring they follow policies and procedures.
3️⃣ Inmate Management: Monitoring inmate behavior, addressing issues, and ensuring compliance.
4️⃣ Program Collaboration: Collaborate with intervention services to support inmate rehabilitation and programs for reintegration.
5️⃣Administrative Duties: Handling budgets, reports, and other administrative tasks to ensure smooth institutional operations.

These duties help maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and inmates.

Work environment

Positions to be filled are located in a maximum federal correctional institution with frequent interaction with inmates where there is a risk of verbal and physical assault.

The work requires working weekends, overtime and on call /stand by hours on a rotational basis.

The work often consist of dealing with multiple and conflicting demands, within a high risk environment.

The position is located at Atlantic Institution, a federal correctional institution where ongoing contact with federally sentenced inmates will be necessary.

🌍📍 Atlantic Institution
Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security facility located in the rural community of Renous, New Brunswick, 30 kilometres from the city of Miramichi, and 10 kilometres from the Village of Blackville.

Intent of the process

The initial intent of this process is to staff permanent bilingual positions (bilingual imperative CBC/CBC).

A pool of qualified bilingual candidates (CBC/CBC) may be created and used to fill future vacancies at Atlantic Institution.
