Duties

Visitor Services Attendants are important front-facing team members. They should be prepared to orient visitors in a welcoming manner and to keep the site and its facilities in top condition.

The work includes:
• greeting visitors in both official languages and providing information
• occasionally demonstrate tasks to others.
• perform routine cleaning and groundskeeping in and around the Visitor Centre
• ensuring rules and regulations are followed by performing visitor compliance.
• work with a point-of-sale system; sell passes, merchandise, and coordinate bookings and tours.
• collect revenue and process payments.
• assist visitors with registration for parking and programs.
• work as part of the team to carry out the first point of contact, share an introduction to the Sir John A. Macdonald history.

The visitor experience team requires a caring and engaging team member who has strong orientation towards customer service, historical empathy, and teamwork ethic. The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of visitors from the local Kingston community, across Canada and many visitors from around the world. The successful candidate will have strong team and interpersonal skills to support inquiries from multiple visitors and will work cooperatively colleagues.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity.
• Experience in meeting public needs by resolving complaints, and/or finding solutions in a customer service atmosphere.
• Experience in cleaning and maintenance of grounds and facilities.
• Experience in cash handling & retail operations.

KNOWLEDGE:
• General knowledge of the history of Bellevue House National Historic Site.
• Knowledge of basic gardening and/or horticultural methods.

ABILITIES:

• Independent: ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Initiative: Dealing with situations and issues proactively, seizing opportunities that arise, leading by example.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :
• First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Garden experience is an asset.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Stand for extended periods (50-100% of the day)
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform and/or PPE and abide uniform policy.
• Perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements lifting and carrying up to 30lbs.
• Be exposed to fluctuating, unpredictable visitor demands and requirements.
• Work shift work, and/or evenings, and/or weekends and/or statutory holidays and/or provincial/territorial holidays
• Willingness to obtain and maintain Occupational Health and Safety and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System training.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain Quality Visitor Experience Training
