We are looking for an Indigenous Liaison to help us collaborate with Indigenous partners on conservation projects and to help create visitor experiences that share local Indigenous history and culture with visitors.

Duties

Plans and hosts project meetings. For example, topics could include: Cultural plant harvesting, habitat restoration projects, cultural awareness training, Species at Risk projects and more.

Looks for opportunities and starts projects on shared interests between Parks Canada and the surrounding Indigenous communities in Eastern Ontario.

Provides advice on consultation and content related to park and historic management, and issues within the Eastern Ontario region.

Helps plan and consult on new and ongoing Parks Canada projects in Thousand Islands National Park and the Eastern Ontario National Historic Sites.

Presents Parks Canada, First Nation, and Métis programs to different audiences as a part of research projects, product development and cultural resource management.

This process is intended to fill existing vacancy(ies) but may be used to fill anticipated vacancy(ies) with the same or similar work description and language requirements, including indeterminate (permanent) and term opportunities, or in different locations.

EDUCATION:

Graduation with a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in developing and nurturing relationships with the Indigenous community of Akwesasne.
• Experience working with at least three of the following: Community boards, volunteer boards, federal and provincial parks, conservation authorities, land trusts, municipalities, community or environmental organizations.
• Experience in organizing events/workshops, coordinating presentations and leading meetings.
• Experience in providing support and guidance to management on relationships with stakeholders and rightsholders.
• Experience in self-managing.

Graduation with a degree in a related field from a recognized university or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience*

Degree equivalency

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willingness to work from various locations;
• Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight, off site and/or weekends.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance.

Obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s Licence.
