Duties

In your role, you will lead a diverse team of technical specialists, maintenance groups, and oversee property management contracts, all working to achieve Parks Canada’s top priorities. This team, with you as its leader, will manage and maintain the assets necessary to provide world-class visitor experience, including the upkeep and oversight of essential assets such as trails, visitor areas, a significant portfolio of residential and farm related leased assets and more.

You will lead by example and help build and sustain a supportive, inclusive, healthy, respectful and productive work culture. This position requires strong experience in the construction field or asset management, as well as good technical expertise, both in terms of analysis and in its verbalization to different audiences.

The position also requires exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate. In addition to managing the human resources of your team, you will work as part of an integrated park management team, and communicate regularly with other Parks Canada employees, senior managers, Indigenous groups, contractors, consultants, stakeholders and external groups.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and preservation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

A rich assembly of natural, cultural and agricultural landscapes, Rouge National Urban Park is home to amazing biodiversity, some of the last remaining working farms in the Greater Toronto Area, Carolinian ecosystems, amazing hiking opportunities, and human history dating back over 10,000 years, including some of Canada's oldest known Indigenous sites.

Rouge National Urban Park is one of the largest and best protected urban parks of its kind in the world, spanning 79.1 square kilometres in the heart of Canada's largest and most diverse metropolitan area, overlapping the cities of Toronto, Markham and Pickering and the townships of Uxbridge and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Intent of the process

The results of this process will be used to fill one (1) full-time indeterminate year-round position.

This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in the same or other parts of the country.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in civil engineering or other engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position. An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may also be considered.

Degree equivalency

• Recent* experience in leading an asset management program or a portfolio of assets for a medium sized organization.

• Recent* experience in managing multi-disciplinary asset management teams and overseeing the work of technical specialists, consultants, and contractors.

• Experience in managing financial resources strategically to meet asset program and/or asset portfolio needs.

• Experience in working effectively with partners and stakeholders to achieve common asset management objectives.

*Note: Recent experience is defined as experience gained in the past five years.

Certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management Institute.

Experience in development and delivery of sustainable infrastructure design, construction or maintenance.

Experience related to assets such as parks, trails, cultural or historical structures.
