Duties

🏠 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Canadian Forces Housing Agency’s national office is seeking someone dynamic to ensure that housing designs comply with building regulations, planning policies, and accessibility standards. In this role, you will assess design plans for new housing developments and ensure they align with quality, sustainability, and community needs. You will work closely with teams to ensure designs meet all necessary requirements and contribute to the development of high-quality, functional living space.

Some activities include :
🖍️ Develop concept designs for housing projects, ensuring alignment with CFHA/DND standards.
💻 Assess accommodation needs, provide technical guidance, and integrate universal design principles.
📏 Evaluate housing designs, analyze trends, and support asset information management.
🖍️ Prepare detailed drawings, ensure compliance with codes, and conduct site inspections.
📔 Implement conservation strategies and collaborate with external agencies.
📑 Contribute to CFHA guidelines, policies, and inter-agency initiatives.
🖥️ Use AutoCAD and other tools for design, analysis, and documentation.
💸 Estimate costs, optimize designs, and minimize project risks.
🏢 Office-based with occasional site visits and travel; manage multiple priorities under deadlines.

❗ CFHA has adopted a hybrid work environment based on operational requirement to leverage the best of both in-person and virtual work to deliver results. To foster a dynamic environment for purposeful in-person connections, hybrid work arrangements are established in accordance with TBS direction. The position is located at the CFHA Head Office at 2171 Thurston Drive in Ottawa and we currently have free parking. The office is a 5-minute drive from the Walkley or Hunt Club exits on the 417.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual Imperative BBB/BBB.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in fields such as building-related architecture design or engineering technology.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• (EX1) Experience in analyzing housing designs by researching options and recommending solutions.
• (EX2) Experience in developing housing designs that consider functional requirements and design objectives.
• (EX3) Experience using 2 and 3 dimensional CADD software in a professional context.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET - CERTIFICATION:
• (AC1) Professional certifications related to building-related engineering, architectural design or engineering technology.

ASSET - EXPERIENCE:
• (AEX1) Experience in providing technical oversight of construction, renovation, repairs, maintenance or management of real property.
• (AEX2) Experience in conducting compliance audits or assessments as a technical subject matter expert of real property.
• (AEX3) Experience in working in a municipal, provincial or federal real property environment.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice.
• Willingness and ability to travel within Canada.
