The saving of human life, relief of suffering and minimizing injuries and property damage through the development and delivery of programs, evaluation, training, exercises and related services in support of the maritime search and rescue (SAR).

The intent of this process is to staff 3 positions on an indeterminate basis.
In addition, a pool of candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar term and/or permanent (indeterminate) positions in various locations that report to the Arctic Region with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and Canadian Coast Guard (CCG).
Please note: this process will ONLY be available to DFO and CCG Arctic Regions and other Departments and Agencies who have positions in Nunavut, Nunatsiavut, Nunavik or the Northwest Territories and the marine areas of James Bay and Hudson Bay. Linguistic profile requirements as well as tenures, position location, conditions of employment and/or security clearance may vary according to the position being staffed.

Experience preparing reports or technical documents using computer software such as but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience working or engaging with at least one of the following: Public, private organizations; government organizations (municipal, provincial/territorial and federal)
Experience operating or working on boats*, or the delivery of maritime programs
*Not required to be in a government setting
Operational experience (maritime or land); This can include:
‣ Experience in response operations such as firefighting, search and rescue, environmental response etc.,

‣ Experience in outfitting, law enforcement, field research, outdoor field services
OR
‣ Field experience in providing outdoor commercial services to fishers, hunters or eco-tourists, e.g. guiding services

‣ Experience in commercial fishing, aquaculture, dockside/at sea monitoring or in a related field

Post-secondary diploma related to the duties of the position
Occupational Certification:
• A deck or engine room Marine Certificate of Competency issued under the CANADA SHIPPING ACT, 2001 Marine Personnel Regulations SOR/2007-115 for a Master Limited (60 Ton) or higher, or a Fourth-Class Engineer, Motor Ship or higher. Certificates will be rated in order of precedence according to the regulations
• Radio Operator’s Certificate (Maritime) or higher
• Current (Valid) Accredited qualifications as an instructor for first aid and/or exercise development and delivery and/or vessel operations
• Small Vessel Operator’s Certificate (SVOP)
• Rigid Hull Inflatable Operator Training (RHIOT)
• ICS Certification
• Valid Rescue Specialist Qualifications
• Valid Marine Emergency Duties certificate (MED)
• Valid Basic First Aid or higher
Experience:
• Experience providing operational training, briefings or presentations
• Experience in small craft operations
• Experience with the Incident Command System
• Experience with Search and Rescue response operations at a field level
