APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
• This is a development opportunity for an individual with an interest and aptitude towards obtaining a Plumber Journeyman certificate. Candidates currently enrolled in a provincial plumber apprenticeship program will also be considered. This is a four-year program that involves work experience and a required training period each year.

• The successful candidate will undertake a work plan to achieve the requirements of this program which may lead to employment as a Journeyman Plumber with Parks Canada.
• The employee will be required to work for Parks Canada for a minimum of one year prior to being eligible for the apprenticeship program training.
• The employee undertaking apprenticeship training will be on leave without pay from Parks Canada, they will be eligible for EI income benefits and the plan supplement during their temporary unemployment. The benefit level paid under this plan is set at 95% of the employees’ regular weekly earning.

Intent of the process

The results of this process will be used to fill one term vacancy. Opportunity for extension for up to the full apprenticeship program is possible. Throughout their development, they will be supervised and guided to help them successfully complete all requirements of the Apprenticeship Program.

It may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the GL MAN 05 group and level, in the same, or other, areas within the Parks Canada Agency with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

EDUCATION
• Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or equivalent

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
• Minimum first year of plumber apprenticeship training completed

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 2 years' experience in the Plumbing trade

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
The asset qualifications are not essential to the job, but may be an asset in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening, assessment or determining right fit for this selection process.

ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
• Completed second to fourth year plumber apprenticeship training

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience with heating systems and their components – propane boilers, hot water heaters and furnaces

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation

Conditions of employment

• Possession and maintenance of a valid class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks
