The Project Management Division works in collaboration with Industry and other Divisions within NAC to administer type certification and design change approvals for aeronautical products. The Project Certification Manager is responsible for:
• Managing the certification and validation projects for domestic and foreign type certification and for changes to type designs of aeronautical products
• Collaborating with NAC divisions and leading multidisciplinary specialists teams to progress the projects through to completion
• Developing and maintaining project schedules, providing visibility and status updates to multiple levels of management
• Acting as the primary interface for NAC with Applicants/OEMs and delegated organizations on certification and validation projects
• Working with foreign civil aviation authorities (FAA, EASA, ANAC, etc.) on regulatory harmonization, and certification and validation projects in accordance with established procedures
• Provides recommendation through Senior Project Certification Manager to support the Chief, Project Management in exercising Ministerial delegation of authority under the Aeronautics Act and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs)
These tasks require the ability to work independently and within teams in a matrix environment on a daily basis. The ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously requires individuals to be highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills to handle challenging situations effectively. This also requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement in a dynamic environment.
National Aircraft Certification (NAC) establishes and regulates standards for aeronautical products designed and operated in Canada, and guides the aerospace industry with respect to certification in highly technical fields such as:
• aircraft design, structures, avionics;
• electrical and mechanical systems;
• power plants;
• equipment;
• engineering flight tests.
NAC is responsible for approving new and modified aeronautical products built or operated in Canada by:
• reviewing and verifying design and performance data;
• supervising and performing ground and flight tests;
• awarding Transport Canada Type Certificates;
• continuing airworthiness of aeronautical products.
The immediate intent of the process is to staff one position immediately. This may result in a creation of a pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates within Transport Canada and it is anticipated more needs will arise. This pool may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures.
