Working in the Rail Safety Directorate at Transport Canada, Regional Railway Inspectors are responsible for monitoring railways to promote compliance with acts and regulations as well as working with railways in identifying and reducing risks.

What you will be doing:
☑ Conducting inspections and audits of railway equipment within the region, and recommending compliance and/or enforcement actions as required;
☑ Providing technical advice and guidance to internal partners and stakeholders in the railway industry;
☑ Applying expertise in the investigations of accidents, incidents, injuries and fatalities, complaints and other situations as it relate to acts and regulations; and
☑ Participating in the planning and implementation of the regional inspection and monitoring program.
The reporting location for this position is 4900 Yonge Street in Toronto. The successful candidate will follow Transport Canada's hybrid work guidance for inspectors working in the field to ensure compliance with the work arrangement agreement and minimum 3 days on-site days per week, as required by the Treasury Board Secretariat for federal employees.
Extensive travel, both locally and regionally, and occasionally nationally, is required for inspection and training activities. Duties will be performed in an office environment as well as various indoor and outdoor environments such as railway sites or yards and under varying weather conditions.
As positions become available, applications may be selected from this inventory for assessment on an as needed basis. A pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be established to staff identical or similar positions with various linguistic profiles, tenures, and locations within Transport Canada.

▸ Why was my application automatically rejected when I submitted it?
You must meet the essential qualifications at the time you submit your application to be included in the inventory. If you do not meet the required qualifications, you will receive a message "Application rejected at screening" after submitting your application. If you incorrectly indicated "No" to a screening question, you can retrieve your application and update your responses.
▸ What happens if my application expires?
Your application will be kept in the inventory for 180 days. A notice will be posted in the "My Job File" menu of your account 14 days before your application expires. If you do not take any action, your application will be deactivated and it will no longer be considered. In the event that your application expires during the effective period of this inventory, a notice will be posted in your account. If you wish to reactivate your application, select the "Renewal of my application" link.
