Work environment

Transport Canada's Aircraft Services Directorate is located at the Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport at 200 Comet Private, Ottawa, ON.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process will initially be used to staff at least three (3) indeterminate English Essential positions.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures at Transport Canada across Canada. This selection process could also result in term appointments (temporary full-time).

✈️EDUCATION
ED1: A secondary school diploma and
ED2: Completion of a post-secondary training program in avionics maintenance or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

✈️OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
OC1: Possession of a valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license, Category E.

✈️EXPERIENCE
EX1: Significant and recent experience as an E license Aircraft Maintenance Engineer maintaining, modifying and installing avionics equipment and systems while exercising the associated ACA privileges.

*Significant and recent experience is defined as at least two years relevant working experience within the last three years.

✈️KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of aircraft and avionics systems.
K2: Knowledge of acceptable methods, techniques and practices related to avionics installations and repairs.

✈️COMPETENCIES

✈️ABILITIES
A1: Ability to communicate effectively orally.

✈️OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
OR1: Willing and able to travel via commercial airlines within North America and on-board ASD and client aircraft during operational roles, and for movement in support of ASD and client operations.
OR2: Willing and able to work in various positions on aircraft and in the hanger (standing, kneeling, lying and sitting), as well as crawling in confined spaces and climbing and working from elevated maintenance stands to perform aircraft maintenance.
OR3: Willing and able to work shift/rotational schedules including evenings and weekends.
OR4: Willing and able to work overtime during the week or weekends on short notice.
OR5: Willing and able to assist with the moving, cleaning, fueling and preparation for inspection of aircraft.
OR6: Willing and able to support the base in day-to-day duties i.e. technical library, stores records, tool calibration and hangar cleaning.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

✈️EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION
AEX1: Training and/or experience maintaining Avionics/Electrical systems on any of the following types of aircraft: Bell 429, Bell 412EPI, Bell 206B & Bell 407.
AEX2: Training and/or experience maintaining Avionics/Electrical systems on any of the following types of aircraft: Bombardier Challenger CL 601 & CL604 Series, Beechcraft King Air C-90A De-Havilland Dash-8 100 Series, De Havilland Dash-7.
AEX3: Training and/or experience in maintaining various aircraft communication (including SATCOM), navigation, instrument, autoflight and flight following systems.
AEX4: Training and/or experience maintaining and overhauling NiCad and lead acid type aircraft batteries.
AEX5: Training and/or experience installing and/or modifying existing Avionics/Electrical systems in fixed wing and/or rotary wing aircraft.

✈️ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS
Due to national staffing controls that are in place with a goal to align the TC workforce with future-year salary affordability, Indeterminate TC employees that are qualified may be hired first until the staffing controls are lifted.

◦ What does "Registered in the inventory" mean?
Once your application has been successfully submitted to the inventory, your status may be: "Date of disclosure of results: Listed in the inventory". This is an automatically generated message by the system and it means that your application is available to be considered. You will be contacted if you are to be further assessed (exam/interview).

◦ My personal information has changed, what should I do?
Simply update your information in the "Personal Information" section in the "My Job File" menu of your account. This will allow us to have your current contact information and ensure adequate follow-up in the event that your application is considered as part of this inventory.

◦ What is the retest period?
The retest period for re-assessment within the context of this inventory is one (1) year from the date of elimination from the process. Candidates who resubmit an application to this inventory process before the retest period has elapsed, will not be considered.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
