Parks Canada is responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas, and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
Parks Canada is looking to hire experienced law enforcement officers to become park wardens. Park wardens are specialized in, and dedicated to, law enforcement. They are peace officers within the meaning of the Criminal Code, and as such they have the powers, duties and protection provided by law to peace officers. They are expected to meet high standards of behaviour which are above those of other employees, both on and off duty, in line with the Park Warden Code of Conduct.
Park wardens wear a distinct uniform and carry personal protective equipment, including a sidearm, a defensive baton and OC spray (“pepper spray”). Their duties involve all facets of law enforcement work including conducting investigations, taking statements, searching, seizing, arresting, preparing court briefs, and giving evidence during trials.
As professional peace officers, park wardens participate in mandatory officer safety training to maintain their specialized skills and certifications. A park warden must also stay fit and strong, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and continue to learn and develop on-the-job.
The intent of this process is to staff indeterminate, seasonal and term Park Warden I (GT-04) positions in various locations across Canada.
