The position provides emergency response for fires, spills, disasters, and accidents, as well as rescue operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing medical care, conducting equipment inspections and maintenance, and participating in public education activities when not responding to emergencies.

CERTIFICATIONS:
- First Aid & CPR: Valid and endorsed certification from a recognized service provider in standard/basic first aid and “Level C” cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or higher.
AND
- Candidates shall meet one (1) or more of the following fire service training prerequisites:
↪ NFPA 1001* Level II and NFPA 470**, Hazardous Materials / Weapons of Mass Destruction standard for Responders, Awareness and Ops level.
OR
↪ Diploma of professional studies in fire safety intervention (Quebec)
OR
↪ Pre-Fire Service Program (Ontario) AND NFPA 470 Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations level certification from an accredited training provider.
Notes: CANADIAN ARMED FORCES (CAF) QUALIFICATION LEVELS (QL)
Applicants for DND Civilian (FR group) positions who have undergone prior training at CFFCA are trained to NFPA standards and should apply to DND Civilian positions presenting the IFSAC/Pro-board seals they receive upon completion of their training. CAF Members can contact CFFCA to obtain their NFPA equivalent qualification.
* NFPA study programs shall be successfully completed at an IFSAC or Pro board accredited entity.
** HAZMAT qualifications issued in accordance with NFPA 472 or 1072 are equivalent qualifications to NFPA 470 and are therefore acceptable alternatives.

- NFPA 1521 – Incident Safety Officer
- NFPA 1021 – Level I Fire Officer
- NFPA 1021 – Level II Fire Officer
- NFPA 1031 – Level III Fire Inspector
- NFPA 1041 – Level II Fire Department Instructor
- NFPA 1006 – High Angle rope rescue operations
- Valid Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certificate.
- Ontario SP100 – Wild Land Firefighter Training.

EXPERIENCES:
AEX1. Experience inspecting a variety of naval vessels, including auxiliary, support and warships
AEX2. Experience in firefighting techniques and associated equipment
