Duties

• Assess the education level of offenders.
• Analyse and document the information gathered from the academic assessment process.
• Write various educational reports.
• Enter academic reports into the Offender Management System (OMS).
• Collaborate with the Case Management Teams.
• Request academic information from various sources.
• Document the information received.
• Provide academic upgrading and other educational services to the offenders residing at Springhill Institution (Regional Reception Center and general population).
• Perform other duties related to the position.

Work environment

Delivery of education programs to inmates in a federal correctional institution (in a classroom setting and individually).

EDUCATION

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in education.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

• Possession of an acceptable teaching certificate from a province or territory of Canada (level 4, 5 or 6).

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in teaching Canadian elementary and/or high school curriculum.
• Experience in teaching adult education programs.
• Experience in incorporating Indigenous perspective into a curriculum.
• Experience in teaching an Indigenous language.
• Experience in working in an outreach or alternative education environment.
• Experience working in a correctional environment.
• Experience in using educational assessment tools.
• Experience in teaching adult learners with learning difficulties/differences.

• Knowledge of Correctional Service Canada and relevant legislation and policy related to Offender Education in a correctional environment (Commissioner's Directive 720).
• Knowledge of adult education strategies and approaches.
