Duties

You arrive at the picturesque, historic Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse. As a member of the maintenance team you will support the goal to enhance the visitor experience and engage Canadians and other visitors in the learning, enjoyment, and appreciation of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage.

Various tasks include grounds work, flower beds, maintaining parking lot and daily picnic areas, setting up for special events, painting, cleaning, recycling and organic waste management. You are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of tools, mowers, grass trimmers, blowers, light truck, tractor and gator.

Intent of the process

📣 The intent of this process is to fill vacancies of various tenures as they arise. Tenures could vary depending on the position being staffed (i.e. year-round indeterminate, seasonal, acting, assignment, part-time or full-time terms, casual, etc.)

A list of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff identical or similar positions within the Parks Canada Agency.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in a team atmosphere (professional, volunteer, hobby, etc.)
• Experience in the performance of general grounds maintenance activities (including but not limited to: lawn mowing, weed whipping, landscaping, painting, cleaning facilities, and trail maintenance)

KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance
• Knowledge of basic safety work practices and procedures

ABILITIES:
• Ability to correctly use and maintain a variety of tools and/or equipment
• Ability to perform work according to specifications/instructions and safe worksite practices
• Ability to effectively perform physically demanding general maintenance work, primarily outdoors

PERSONAL SUITABILITY:
• Gets along well with others
• Dependable
• Shows Initiative
• Exercises sound judgement

Conditions of employment

• Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to travel and work in various terrain and weather conditions for long periods of time
• Willingness to wear the appropriate Parks Canada Uniform and safety equipment, including steel-toed boots and follow safety procedures
• Willingness to perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements (e.g. lifting up to 20 kg)
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet program delivery requirements
• Willingness to obtain other certification as required and identified by the field unit
