Duties

As part of your duties, you will manage a diverse team of technical specialists and conservation professionals working to achieve Parks Canada's key priorities. The Resource Conservation Manager is responsible for a team of around ten people.

You will lead by example and contribute to building and maintaining a positive, inclusive, healthy, respectful and productive work culture. This position requires solid experience in the conservation field, as well as in financial and human resources management, and good technical expertise, both in analysis and in verbalization for different audiences.

For the Gaspésie Field Unit, you will manage programs such as ecological integrity monitoring, species at risk monitoring, ecological restoration, invasive species monitoring, environmental impact assessment, cultural resources, visitor safety, forest fire management, wildlife management, environmental emergencies, and geomatics.
The position also requires exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate. In addition to managing the human resources of your teams, you will be required to interact regularly with other Parks Canada employees, senior managers, aboriginal groups, contractors, consultants, stakeholders, and external groups.

Work environment

Parks Canada is the federal agency responsible for protecting and presenting Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of the country.

Want to get away from it all? To disconnect? Have fun in the midst of nature? Located on the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, Parc Forillon is a mountainous peninsula bordered by the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Gaspé Bay. Its boreal forest is home to a wide variety of easily observable wildlife. Its vertiginous cliffs are home to thousands of seabirds and its shores to colonies of seals. The landscapes are grandiose, and their rocks contain part of the planet's fascinating history. For thousands of years, men and women have populated the Forillon Peninsula: Micmacs, fishermen, cod traders, whalers, lighthouse keepers and more.
Forillon Park tells their fascinating story. Forillon, YOUR end of the world!

Your work will also occasionally take you to the two national historic sites managed by the Gaspésie Field Unit: The Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse National Historic Site on the St. Lawrence River in Rimouski, and the Battle of the Ristigouche National Historic Site on the Ristigouche River in Pointe-à-la-Croix.
