Duties

1. Administer and support Windows virtual servers in a VMware environment in direct support of police operations.
2. Provide client support for IT systems in an Active Directory environment in direct support of police operations.
3. Configure devices for secure deployment via VPN.
4. Implement new technologies and quality assurance.
5. Establish and develop partnerships with peers from within the RCMP, national and international government departments, law enforcement agencies, security agencies and private industry.
6. Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
7. Document and report on system configurations, changes and incidents.

Intent of the process

Intent to fill one (1) indeterminate position. A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff this position or similar positions or for future term, acting, assignment, secondment, deployment, or indeterminate opportunities.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.

Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
3. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Degree equivalency

*Recent experience in the configuration, maintenance, or troubleshooting of Windows Server operating systems of either UNIX/Linux or Windows Desktop operating systems.

*Recent experience providing client support for IT systems in LAN and WAN environments.

*Recent experience refers to experience within the last five years.

*Recent experience with virtualization technologies such as Vmware, HyperV, ESXI or similar.

*Recent experience utilizing electronics test equipment (Such as oscilloscopes, RF communications analyzers, multimeters etc.) and test procedures in both analog and digital systems.

*Recent experience refers to experience within the last five years.

Experience with electronic device troubleshooting.

Experience in troubleshooting network connectivity issues.

Experience in scripting or programming.

RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status with Top Secret level security clearance

Willingness and ability to travel throughout the service area (Manitoba) for extended period of time as required, sometimes on short notice and often by small plane to remote sites.

Willingness and ability to work in areas exposed to inclement weather and occasional uncomfortable working locations.

Willingness and ability to climb ladders and to work at a height.

Willingness and ability to work overtime to support operational activities or systems, sometimes on short notice.

Willingness and ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment (ex: minimum 50lbs).

Willingness and ability to work in confined areas

Able and willing to provide testimony in court

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
