Work in a complex aviation air operation with multiple certificates and multiple clients (Canadian Coast Guard (CCG),Marine Surveillance, DND, Transport Canada)
To be part of a safety team of specialists and investigators in a safety management system.
Responsibilities include:
• Conducting investigations of incident and accidents
• Analyzing risk and recommending mitigations
• Writing reports, safety bulletins, safety newsletters
• Measuring safety performance, conducting safety audits
• Safety promotion
• Aviation Emergency Response Preparedness

What you will be doing
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Assess emerging technologies, safety concerns and issues as they relate to Aircraft Services Operations.
Develop and deliver safety training/presentations
Organize and deliver Emergency Response exercises and drills
Provide expert technical advice, support, and recommendations to management on the handling of functional, cross-functional, high profile, sensitive and complex issues or problems.
Maintain professional pilot currency

Work environment

The position is based in the ASD Headquarters at Ottawa International Airport Hangar T-58. Travel to regional ASD and CCG bases across Canada will be required.

Intent of the process

There is currently one (1) vacancy in the team. The intent of this process is to create a pool of partially or fully qualified candidates to staff this position and/or possibly other future similar or identical positions at Transport Canada.

✈ Education
ED1: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

✈ Occupational Certification
OC1: Possession of one of the following:
• A valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence – Aeroplane Category, with a valid Group 1 Instrument Rating AND possession of valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical);or
• A valid Canadian Commercial Pilot Licence, Helicopter Category, with a valid Group IV Instrument Rating AND possession of valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).

✈ Experience
EX1: Experience in conducting or receiving aviation audits or compliance inspections either as anInspector or as an employee of an air operator.
EX2: Experience in development and presentation of safety related information.
EX3: Experience in researching and evaluating safety related equipment and procedures.
EX4: Minimum 3000 hours of Flying Time.

✈ Asset Education
AED1: Post-secondary education in one field of study: such as Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering,Safety Management, Human Factors, or other field relevant to the duties of this position

Degree equivalency

✈ Asset Occupational Certifications
AOC1: Possession of aeroplane and helicopter licences .
AOC2: Possession of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence (AME).

✈ Asset Experience
AEX1: Experience as an aviation safety investigator.
AEX2: Experience as an aviation safety officer.
AEX3: Experience in design, development and implementation of safety or quality systems.

✈ Operational Requirements
Willing and able to travel on occasion.
Willing and able to work overtime on occasion.
Maintain Instrument Rating/Pilot Proficiency Check (IR/PPC) on one type of Aircraft Services aircraft.
