Duties

The Visitor Experience Team Leader III (PM-03) is the program coordinator for two streams: 1) Information Services; and 2) Interpreter Services (natural/cultural heritage interpretation). These operations include development and delivery of visitor publications, coordinating the visitor facility rental program, operating visitor centre complex that includes a shop, exhibit, venue rental and information services; planning, development, and delivery of park interpretive experiences and more.

Work environment

Riding Mountain National Park is located in Treaty 2 Territory, the Anishinabe homelands, where we work with the Coalition of First Nations with interests in Riding Mountain National Park to foster positive and collaborative relationships. Riding Mountain National Park is located approximately 3.5 hours northwest of Winnipeg. Protecting 3,000 square kilometers of wilderness.

Approximately 350,000 people visit Riding Mountain National Park each year. Our dynamic and diverse staff protect and present the park. We provide visitors with quality and memorable experiences during each season of the year.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate (permanent) full-time position on-location in Riding Mountain National Park in the Visitor Experience department.

This process may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, linguistic requirements, or work locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
A minimum of 2 years post-secondary education OR *acceptable combination of education, training, experience, or traditional knowledge relevant to the position.
*An acceptable combination includes:
• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience in a field relevant to the position being staffed; AND
• Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) course relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organizations or employers including training provided by Indigenous Elders or groups that may include but are not limited to courses in heritage interpretation, communications, public speaking, performing arts); AND
• A minimum of 12 (twelve) months experience working in the fields of education, interpretation, and/or outreach-communications.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring programs, activities, operations, services or facilities in the tourism field.
• Experience in hiring, supervising staff and leading diverse teams.
• Experience writing and editing communications products such as web content, brochures, and/or non-personal media text.
• Experience in financial resources management.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
• Oversee the management of a large staff, engaged in a variety of visitor services functions, through subordinate supervisors.
• Willing and able to make moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
