Duties

Provides regional nursing support, advice and recommendations in the development and application of new approaches, methods, and techniques to meet the changing requirements of integrated trauma informed, non-stigmatizing nursing services; assists in the implementation of evidence-based research programs and other aspects of service delivery for offenders within the community and institutions; support management and the region in ensuring that service delivery is compliant with professional standards and CSC policies and guidelines.

Promotes and supports practice leadership skills and enhances service delivery through reviews, development and implementation of new training opportunities; support management and sites through coordination and tracking of the delivery of professional development training for nursing staff and other non-registered health professionals in the region; reviews the delivery of standardized training, specific to professional practice, for staff and others in the region.

Work environment

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering court imposed sentences of a term of two years or more. CSC manages various security level institutions and supervises offenders under conditional release in the community. CSC's mandate is to contribute to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and human control.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

• Registration as a Registered Nurse OR a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in a province or territory of Canada. (In order to be appointed, candidates must be registered in the province or territory where the position is being staffed.)

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in providing professional advice and consultation on professional practice standards that relates to the provision of nursing care.
• Experience in planning, implementing and evaluation of initiatives and/or programs in interdisciplinary practice settings.

KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of legislation and policies that influence the delivery of health service within a Correctional milieu such as acts, the mandate, priorities, Commissioner’s Directives, guidelines and/or accreditation standards.
• Knowledge of current and emerging health/education technologies, trends and best practices.
• Knowledge of professional standards such as ethical standards, resources, human rights and/or health.

ASSET EDUCATION

• Recognized bachelors, masters or doctoral degree in nursing, nursing administration, nursing education or other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE

• Experience in managing financial resources.
• Experience working in a correctional environment.
• Experience in managing human resources.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Willingness to travel.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
