Intent of the process

The results of this process will be used to fill potential seasonal, term/acting/assignment at level vacancies for the 2025 season. This process may also be used to fill future vacancies that may arise at the GL-MAN-03 group & level, in various locations, with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Seasonal Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification
• Standard First Aid

EXPERIENCE
• Experience working in remote areas.
• Experience in multi-day hikes, carrying an overnight pack.
• Experience is various construction methods relevant to the position.
• Experience working with hand tools including, but not limited to shovels, rakes, grubbing tools and/or handsaws.
• Experience working with power tools including, but not limited to corded and cordless tools for construction, brush saw, and weed trimmer.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Experience in travel by various forms; including horse, bike, boat, and helicopter.

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of the use and maintenance of light mechanized equipment.
• Knowledge of trail construction and trail maintenance techniques.
• Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety as it relates to trail work and working in a remote setting.

• Ability to hike 20 KM per day, carrying a heavy backpack & equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment associated with trail construction and maintenance.

ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
• Registered chainsaw proficiency
• Successful completion of the 20-hour Wilderness First Aid (or higher).

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• 1 yr. or more of Trail Maintenance experience. Working with other Parks Canada Field Unit(s) Trail Maintenance Programs, Provincial/Territorial, or community organized Trail Maintenance or Trail Builder Teams on a full-time basis.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment.
• Willingness to provide and wear appropriate footwear.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays.
• Willingness to travel and work in the Waterton Lakes Field Unit
• Extensive physical effort required to hike and / or work for prolonged periods of time.
• Be exposed to potential for injury when performing trail maintenance activities.
• Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others.
• Must be able to live and work up to 10 (days) duration in a remote location, and in varied weather conditions.
• Willingness to complete registered chainsaw proficiency training

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Obtain and maintain Reliability Status.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical evaluation as outlined in Parks Canada Occupational Health Monitoring Program.
