Duties

The Technical Inspector (TI) stream of the Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program (MA&S ODP) focusses on preparing trainees to assume the role of a Quality Assurance Representative (QARs).

As a Quality Assurance Representative, you will provide Government Quality Assurance services at assigned Defence industry contractor locations to ensure that the military equipment that's supplied is in accordance with the contract requirements. Some of your tasks may include:

• Evaluating assigned Defence contractor quality management systems against standards such as ISO 9001:2015;
• Evaluating risk information and planning appropriate quality assurance surveillance;
• Performing quality auditing activities and witnessing equipment testing;
• Identifying and informing the contractor of non-compliance, assessing contractor responses and monitoring corrective action taken;
• Reviewing Certificate of Conformance and release documents;
• Providing technical, engineering, and materiel management support to National Defence Headquarters Equipment Management Program clients;
• Providing support to clients for military equipment undergoing repair and overhaul at assigned contractor locations; and
• Arranging Government Quality Assurance for products or services contracted outside Canada.

▶ Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program - (MA&S ODP)
The Materiel Acquisition and Support Officer Development Program is an elite, fast-paced, on-the-job, entry-level development program.

The program consists of five (5) different career streams that a candidate may apply for. This application process is specific to our Technical Inspector (TI) program stream.

While in the TI stream, trainees will complete two (2) on-the-job training (OJT) phases. Each training phase spans twelve (12) months in duration for a total of two (2) years in duration. Opportunities for accelerated progression within the program exist and can bring a trainee to a successful program completion in shorter timelines.

Candidates who are selected to join the program will be hired at the TI-03 groups and level. After the successful completion of each phase, trainees are promoted to the next classification group and level. Upon graduation, trainees are offered career a predetermined placement at the TI-05 working-level within the Materiel Group.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this process is to fill 5 positions on a term/indeterminate basis.

This process will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

EDUCATION

• Completion of an acceptable post secondary training program in chemical, electrical, electronics, aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical, maritime, software, or industrial engineering technology, or in another field of science or technology relevant to the position to be filled.
OR
• An acceptable combination of education and a minimum of five years of training or work experience in a field of science or technology relevant to the position to be filled.

• May be required to work occasional overtime.
• May be required to travel across Canada and internationally by any means of transportation.

• May be required to wear protective clothing as they might be exposed to regular plant hazards such as but not limited to: radiation and nuclear material, volatile fumes, operating machinery, vehicular traffic, noise, fumes, heat and cold.

• Candidates appointed from outside the federal public service will be on probation for the duration of the program.
• Trainee must hold a valid Canadian provincial driver’s license.
