Duties

As part of CSC’s dedicated and skilled interdisciplinary teams, our occupational therapists provide high quality evidence-informed occupational therapy services for individuals incarcerated in federal prisons. As an occupational therapist in CSC, you will have the opportunity to work at the top of your scope, promoting occupational participation through collaborative trauma-informed and relationship-focused occupational therapy.

CSC occupational therapists are involved in a wide range of tasks for individuals with mental health and/or physical health issues, including:
• Comprehensive assessments: identifying factors affecting the functioning of the whole person.
• Individual interventions: using a collaborative relationship focused approach in the development of intervention plans that keep the client and their occupations at the centre of practice.
• Group interventions: delivering health related group interventions, such as chronic pain management, emotion regulation, social skills, stress management, community preparedness, independent living skills, etc.
• Education: providing education to clients and staff on factors impacting occupational participation and advocating for access to meaningful occupational possibilities.
• Community capacity building: developing partnerships within the community to coordinate services, identify and address gaps in services and advocate for resources.

Intent of the process

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Eligibility for practice as an Occupational Therapist with the provincial registering/licensing body in the province of practice.

(Note: Eligibility for the above must be met upon appointment but not at point of application. Applicants should be in their final year of study or have completed the required education.)

EXPERIENCE
Experience in providing occupational therapy services through workplace and/or practicum placements.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE (ASSET)
Experience working in a correctional environment.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to clients with psychiatric/mental health disorders.
Experience providing Occupational Therapy services to clients with physical, medical and/or cognitive conditions & deficits. These may include but are not limited to geriatric clients, brain injuries, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and behaviourally challenged clients.
