Duties

AS03 and AS04 ONLY:
Key duties:
Conducting Inspection related to Occupational Health and Safety in various environments (indoor, office, warehouse, field, mechanical, etc.);
Providing advice and consultation by interpreting and advising on safety legislation, regulations, policy or programs (working with workplace health and safety committees, project review (new construction or retro fit), review all events in the National Capital Region, general inquiries;
Training and briefing (conduct briefing to workplace health and safety committees, conduct lunch and learns);
Participate in the development of digital processes to which align with our services;
Encompass preventive measures, regulations, and training to minimize workplace hazards, injuries, and illnesses. Ensuring effective occupational health and safety programs prioritize risk assessment, hazard control, and employee engagement, fostering a culture of safety

AS05 ONLY:
Key duties:
Develops, adapts, implements Canadian Army (CA) safety programs within the policy and framework of the departmental program;
Develops and maintains collaborative, information-sharing, and consultative networks and relationships, and liaises with colleagues, experts, stakeholders and senior management;
Provides input and/or contributes to the development and/or implementation of departmental policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines related to the area(s) of work;
Monitors the implementation of various safety policies, procedures, plans, standards, best practices, tools and/or guidelines;
Ensures appropriate procedures, requirements, legislation and/or standards are adhered to;
Develops and updates safety policy instruments within the CA; and
Interprets OHS legislation in an operational or corporate/policy environment.

Work environment

AS03 and AS04 position in Ottawa, ON - Vice Chief of Defence Staff:
We are a small team based out of NDHQ Carling, which values communication, teamwork and respect. Every member of the team is encouraged to participate in decision-making which creates an environment that encourages inclusiveness. Providing service to nearly 25,000 employees (public servants and CAF members) across the National Capital Region, we are not your typical CAF base, working with a variety of safety programs (general safety, occupational health and safety, environmental safety, radiation safety laser safety, etc.). Due to our vast clientele, we have an opportunity to deal with a variety of environments which makes every day unique. We are an organization that is evolving technologically, we are in the process of digitalizing some of our services to align with new business practice. We are in the process of developing business solutions, which allows us to analyze and draw data for visualization, automate business processes. AS04 positions in Esquimalt, BC - Royal Canadian Navy
Work Formation Safety & Environment (FSE) team at CFB Esquimalt develops and implements policies for Operational Heath & Safety (OHS), Environmental Protection, and Indigenous Engagement. We work closely with all units within CFB Esquimalt, as well as the Naval Reserve Divisions across Canada, to help them build and administer their own safety and environment programs. FSE is a section within the Maritime Forces Pacific Headquarters; the Safety team liaises with Health Canada, ESDC and WorkSafeBC, as well as Labour Union representatives and OHS contractors, to ensure our safety policies and standards are in line with the latest OHS legislation and reflect industry best practices. Our portfolio includes laser safety, radio frequency safety, ionizing radiation safety, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out, confined space entry, extreme temperatures, indoor air quality, contractor safety, ergonomics, PPE, hearing conservation, safe drinking water, workplace harassment and violence prevention, hazard ID and risk assessments, and hazardous occurrence investigation and reporting.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill the following positions:
↪ One (1) Bilingual imperative (BBB/BBB), AS-03 Corporate Services Coordinator in Ottawa, ON

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), language profiles, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

For future AS-04 and AS-05 positions with the Canadian Army only, this pool may also be used to fill vacancies in Wainwright (Alberta), Gagetown (New Brunswick), Moncton (New Brunswick), Halifax (Nova Scotia) and Kingston (Ontario).

EX3. Experience interpreting occupational health and safety legislation in an operational or a corporate policy environment.
EX4. Experience in implementing health and safety programs or initiatives.
