Duties

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada currently has an opening for a Research Technician to join our Sensory Evaluation and Consumer Research team.

The successful candidate will work within the Sensory Evaluation and Consumer Research program and report to a Research Scientist at the Summerland Research and Development Centre, Summerland, BC.

The main responsibilities will include planning and implementing sensory evaluation and consumer research tests, conducting food quality assessments using instrumental determinations, contributing to experiment designs, developing research protocols, assisting in the coordinating scientific activities with other research programs, and assisting in the preparation of manuscript/report drafts and presentation materials.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to fill one (1) indeterminate position in Summerland, British Columbia.

*Please note that this position requires on-site presence in Summerland, British Columbia.

A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates may be established and used to fill similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis.

β€’ Experience preparing documents necessary for Research Ethics Board submissions, drafting reports, standard operating procedures and equipment user manuals.
β€’ Experience with professional software for data acquisition in sensory and consumer research.
β€’ Experience developing pivot tables and creating and maintaining data bases in Excel at the intermediate level.
β€’ Experience with the statistical analysis and the application of statistical tools like SPSS, JMP, SAS, or R.
β€’ Experience with the compositional analyses of foods.
β€’ Experience with textural analyses of foods using instrumentation.

β€’ Possession of a valid, class 5, British Columbia driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
β€’ Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
β€’ Ability and willingness to work in a laboratory for extended periods at a time.
β€’ Ability and willingness to take required departmental training and certification such as WHIMIS, and Chemical Safety.
β€’ Ability and willingness to adhere to the British Columbia's Food Premises Regulations (Food Premises Regulation) specifically, Division 5 - Employees, and Division 7 – Miscellaneous.
β€’ Ability to perform physically demanding work activities, including occasional moderate to heavy manual work such as moving objects up to 25 kg.
