Duties

The GT-01 Heritage presenter role delivers interpretive presentations, programs, and activities to visitors at Parks Canada Sites in Manitoba South.

We’re looking for candidates with customer or client oriented service skills, who are comfortable sharing their perspectives and lived experiences to fill these positions.

Work environment

A passionate, diverse group of people from a variety of functions, work together as the Manitoba Field Unit. The field unit manages seven national historic sites and one national park which are broadly dispersed throughout southern and northern Manitoba. These are: Wapusk National Park; Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site; York Factory National Historic Site; Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site; St. Andrew’s Rectory National Historic Site; The Forks National Historic Site; Riel House National Historic Site and Linear Mounds National Historic Site. The Manitoba Field Unit south is responsible for developing and delivering programs and visitor experiences at six of these National Historic Sites. The team works collaboratively with Indigenous partners such as the Treaty One Nation, and the Manitoba Métis Federation to ensure all perspectives are considered.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff GT-01 Heritage Presenter positions in various tenures in the Visitor Experience South Team of the Manitoba Field Unit. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may also be established to staff similar or identical positions at Parks Canada with various linguistic profiles as well as tenures, location across Canada and/or security clearance, which may vary according to the position being staffed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination* of education, training, experience, or traditional knowledge relevant to position.

*An acceptable combination of education, training and experience may include two years of secondary school or Public Service Commission approved alternatives.

AS WELL AS:

Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) course relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organizations or employers including training provided by Indigenous elders or group that may include but are not limited to courses in education, tourism, recreation, leisure studies, heritage interpretation, communications, public speaking, performing arts).

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
► Experience in delivering information to individuals or groups in face-to-face situations with the purpose of educating, informing, engaging, entertaining and/or motivating;
► Experience sharing the cultural teachings of Prairie or Anishinaabe First Nations groups.

ASSET EXPERIENCE

Depending on the position to be staffed, other qualifications may be used by the hiring manager(s). If so, candidates will be provided with the opportunity to submit all relevant information and will be informed prior to being assessed in relation to other qualifications that may apply.

► Experience in giving instructions and/or delivering training;
► Experience in the delivery of natural and/or cultural heritage programs;
► Experience in theatre/performing arts, heritage interpretation, adult education museum education or story telling.

► Obtain and maintain Reliability Status Security Clearance

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
► Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays;
► Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
► Be available to work at various locations across Manitoba South, including the Forks National Historic Site, Riel House National Historic Site and Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site;
► Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
► Stand/walk for prolonged periods while delivering tours or interpretive programming.
