Duties

Duties of this position may include (but are not limited to):
↪ Installing electronic equipment, wiring and components, instruments, apparatus and systems in the
laboratory or in the field.
↪ Providing technical advice on the maintenance, repair, evaluation, calibration, installation and/or inspection of electronic equipment.
↪ Assisting with technical investigations, trials and/or experiments on electronic systems and equipment.
↪ Submitting requests and cost estimates/comparisons for equipment, material and parts.
↪ Coordinating work with other team members.

✈ This position is located at 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton. 8 Wing/CFB Trenton sits on the Bay of Quinte and is at the forefront of Canadian military airlift with its fleets of tactical and strategic transport aircraft. Daily flights to the four corners of the globe are routine for this wing, which is highly responsive to international events.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one full-time indeterminate (permanent) position in Trenton, Ontario. The official location of the position (designated worksite) to be staffed is 8 Wing/CFB Trenton and requires full-time onsite attendance.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), security requirements, operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

1. Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1. Experience with electrical and electronic theories of operation and characteristics of electronic systems, equipment, instrumentation, and components.
EX2. Experience in the electronics field, such as repairing, calibrating, or installing electronic systems or sub-systems.
EX3. Experience using electronic laboratory test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and scalar/vector network analyzers.
EX4. Experience reading and understanding electrical drawings and schematics.

EDUCATION
AED1. Completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology with specialization in communications, control, computer, robotics, or mechatronics.

AED2. Certified electronic technologist (CET).

AEX1. Experience using microscopes and magnifiers.
AEX2. Experience with through hole and surface mount technology soldering.
AEX3. Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting circuits.
AEX4. Experience with microprocessors and microcontrollers.
AEX5. Experience with programming languages, such as C, C++, Python, Assembly, etc.
AEX6. Experience with AutoCAD, OrCAD, PCB printer, Altium, or Diptrace.

• Willing and able to perform physically demanding tasks including safely lifting and carry up to 40 kg, climbing ladders and structures, bending, stooping.

• Willing and able to work in cramped and awkward positions, where flexibility of movement is limited.

• Willing and able to utilize Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and adopt Protective Health Measures (PHMs).

• Willing and able to work overtime on an occasional basis.
