Plan members who have retired from the federal public service are eligible to receive coverage under the Public Service Health Care Plan, provided they receive a public service pension. Institution based positions earn operational service time, where after 10 years of service employees can retire at age 50.

Duties

ELECTRICIAN – GL-EIM-11
Maintenance of all electrical services, fire and security alarms, distribution systems and fixtures for the occupants and staff of a Correctional Service of Canada institution.

MILLWRIGHT – GL-MAM-09
Installation, care, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), cell doors, security gates, fences and barriers, water and heating pumps, laundry and kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment and equipment providing space heating and cooling for the occupants of Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) facilities.

PLUMBER – GL-PIP-09
Provision of maintenance in such areas, as: plumbing, hot water heating, chilled water, low pressure steam, gas, fire protection, potable water, natural gas heating, sanitary, compressed air lines, and storm sewer services for the occupants and staff of a Correctional Service of Canada institution.

GARAGE MECHANIC/INSTRUCTOR – GL-VHE-09
Maintenance, repair, control, record keeping and dispatching of motor vehicles and other equipment, such as: heavy equipment, trailers, machinery and ground maintenance equipment for a facility of the Correctional Service of Canada. Supervision and training offenders.

CARPENTER – GL-WOW-09
Provision of carpentry maintenance services, construction, alterations, repair of buildings and infrastructures for facilities of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

Tradespersons employed in these areas are responsible to support the maintenance of the institutions while directly supervising and training inmates.
