Intent of the process

This inventory is for casual employment which is a temporary employment of 90 working days or less, in a calendar year.

Your application in this inventory will be active for 6 months. Your résumé.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Some essential and other qualifications will be assessed through your application. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. English essential

Information on language requirements

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

and

Professional culinary arts diploma or acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience

Degree equivalency

Recent and significant experience working as a cook in an institutional or commercial setting

* Recent is defined as experience acquired within the last 5 years
** Significant is defined as having the depth and breadth of experience that would normally be acquired over a period of approximately 3 years

Knowledge of cooking methods and techniques including large quantity meal production

Knowledge of principles of basic nutrition

Knowledge of methods and techniques for the preparation of menu components for therapeutic and religious diets

Knowledge of the proper usage of kitchen equipment and utensils

Knowledge of safety practices and procedures within a food services environment

Knowledge of proper food handling and storage practices

Knowledge of personal hygiene and kitchen sanitation practices in food services

Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately

Ability to interpret a recipe and make adjustments in terms of ingredient quantities and required portions

Ability to communicate orally

Ability to communicate in writing

Ability to train, supervise and motivate offenders

Ability to lift and carry up to 20 kg
