Update: Please note the closing date for this inventory is May 24, 2017.
When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.
You must clearly demonstrate on your application, via the screening questions, how you meet each of the essential merit criteria. Failure to do so may result in the rejection of your application.
When responding to screening questions, please be sure to provide comprehensive examples from your work experience that clearly demonstrate how you meet the identified experience criteria. Your answer should clearly identify your role in the noted example. A job title alone, does not demonstrate that you have requisite level of experience, so be sure to explain relevant responsibilities and/or actions that you took. Failure to complete the questionnaire or failure to provide sufficient details to the questions will result in your elimination from this process.
The Test of Oral Proficiency (TOP) is a staffing tool used by departments and agencies to assess employees' proficiency in their second official language. Second language assessors administer the TOP approximately five (5) times a day. They lead a conversation, simultaneously using a computer and specialized software, while assessing the language performance of the candidate. The job involves extensive interaction in person and over the phone with public servants and members of the general public, as well as collaboration with colleagues and other team members.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures in the future at the Public Service Commission (PSC) in Gatineau and/or Montreal. It could also be used to staff Second Language Evaluation Test of Oral Proficiency Assessor positions in other departments in the National Capital Region.
