A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives

Degree equivalency

Training to a Level II Cook (Institutional), or higher - based on National Occupational Analysis (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada).
Marine First Aid (can be Marine Basic First Aid, Marine Advanced First Aid, or Occupational First Aid Level 3).
Food Safe.
Marine Emergency Duties STCW - Basic Safety.*
Marine Emergency Duties STCW - Survival Craft.*

*Note: if you are in possession of the former MED A1, B1, and B2, these will be accepted as they are considered to be the equivalent of the 2 courses listed above.

Experience in the Hospitality Industry or in an institutional setting.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Valid Medical (new hires: Transport Canada Marine Medical or Health Canada Periodic 3).
Valid Passport.
Must be willing and able to wear a Respiratory Protection device and meet the standard of the CCG Respiratory Protection Program - RPP.
Willingness to wear and maintain a uniform per Canadian Coast Guard standards, inclusive of CSA approved safety footwear, and maintain job related personal safety equipment.
Must be willing and able to be deployed.
Must be willing and able to perform Overtime work as required, often on short notice.
Must be willing and able to work shiftwork.
Must be willing and able to work aboard a vessel for up to 42 consecutive days.
Must be willing and able to travel by air, land, or by sea.
