Working in the Rail Safety Directorate at Transport Canada, Regional Railway Inspectors are responsible for monitoring railways to promote compliance with acts and regulations as well as working with railways in identifying and reducing risks.
What you will be doing:
☑ Planning and conducting inspection and audit activities on external stakeholders (such as Railway Companies, Road Authorities, etc.).
☑ Preparing inspection reports and following up on areas of non compliance and concern.
☑ Inspection program planning, reviewing and analyzing technical matters related to requests for interpretation of rules, regulations or standards.
☑ Providing subject matter technical direction, guidance, advice, and interpretation to internal and external stakeholders.
The reporting location for this position is at 4900 Yonge Street, Toronto. This position requires extensive travel locally, regionally, and sometimes nationally to conduct inspections and training. Duties will be performed in an office environment as well as various indoor and outdoor environments and under varying weather conditions.
The immediate need is to staff one (1) permanent position in Toronto. A qualified pool may be established and used to staff this or other similar positions with various tenures or language profiles within Transport Canada.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination* of education and experience.
*Acceptable combination is defined as completion of two (2) years of secondary school and at least five (5) years of experience working in the railway industry performing duties related to this position.
Experience:
Recent and significant* experience as a track inspector or track specialist in the inspection and evaluation of track conditions to ensure compliance with Canadian railway standards.
Experience in using word processing and spreadsheet software.
*Recent and significant experience is defined as having performed a broad range of various and complex activities normally acquired over a period of three (3) years within the last five (5) years.

Asset Qualifications:
Experience working in a track supervisory role within a railway in Canada.
Recent and significant* experience in the application of Transport Canada's Rules Respecting Track Safety.
Experience in managing projects related to railway activities.
Experience in risk evaluation and trend/risk analysis.

Ability and willingness to use various types of personal protective equipment, as required.
Ability and willingness to exercise physical effort to climb, embark and disembark railway structures or equipment, at times on sites where access may be difficult, and the terrain is rugged.

◦ Why was my application automatically rejected upon submission?
