In line with Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) direction, the Department of National Defence (DND) has adopted a common hybrid work model. This position will see the employee work at their designated worksite at least three (3) days each week, or 60% of their regular schedule. (This is subject to change if the TBS directive is modified.)

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on an indeterminate basis in Ottawa ON. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff future vacancies.

Education:

• A secondary school diploma; and
• Completion of an acceptable training program in electronics technology or the employer-approved alternative.

The employer-approved alternative is as follows:
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note:
Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

• Experience in modifying and testing radio frequency (RF) systems such as receiving and transmitting systems.
• Experience in designing, developing, and testing digital circuits and systems.
• Experience in the set-up, interface, and operation of signal generation, data collection and analysis equipment such as signal generators and spectrum analysers.
• Experience in planning, coordinating, and conducting experiments to collect data or to test equipment.
• Experience in programming using software such as LabVIEW, C, C# , Java, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar.
• Experience in programming and configuring microcontrollers and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
• Experience in preparing documentation describing subsystem development, test plans, test results and operating procedures.
• Experience in managing, operating, and maintaining laboratory/test facilities and all associated equipment.

Degree equivalency

Asset Experience:

• Experience in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design from concept to schematic to PCB layout to population to testing.
• Experience in automation of test set-ups.
• Experience in performing research and development experimental work in a mixed civilian and military environment.

Asset Knowledge:

• Knowledge of electronic theory and design techniques.
• Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) system principles, Radio Frequency (RF) systems and equipment.
• Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) signal data collection and Radio Frequency (RF) measurement techniques.
• Knowledge of Radar Theory and Principles.
• Knowledge of digital serial protocols (e.g. RS-45, RS-232).
• Knowledge of procurement procedures for the purchase of goods or services related to the operation of the lab.

Asset Abilities:

• Ability to understand and evaluate specifications and characteristics of Radio Frequency (RF) equipment and components.
• Ability to develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to control and operate laboratory systems and instruments using common tools (e.g. LabVIEW, C, C#, Java, MATLAB, Simulink, Python).
