Duties

The Maintenance Worker provides support to all employees of the Normandin Experimental Farm.

Main duties include:
- Perform and ensure preventive maintenance on the building's various mechanical systems (e.g. air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, etc.);
- Respond to minor malfunctions (e.g. neon changes, belt changes, filter changes, etc.);
- Provide cleaning and maintenance services for buildings and grounds (e.g. painting, lawn mowing, snow removal, etc.);
- Ship and receive merchandise;
- Analyze major malfunctions before submitting them to the officer in charge;
- Conduct preventive patrols to protect property and ensure the well-being of others;
- Accompany contractors on worksites.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) position:

One full-time permanent position in Normandin, Quebec (French essential).

A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements and security requirements.

Education
• A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experiences
• Experience in building maintenance and/or lands and roads.
• Experience in performing general labour tasks.
• Experience in regarding the use, functioning and maintenance of hand and power tools.
• Experience in operating tractors.

Knowledge
• Knowledge of the operation and use of tractor-mounted equipment used for
o lawn mowing,
o snow removal OR
o loading operations.

Competencies
• Attention to detail.
• Concern for safety.
• Adaptability.
• Planning and organization.
• Showing initiative and being action oriented.

Abilities
• Ability to effectively communicate in writing.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally.

Asset Education
• Successful completion of a post-secondary program with an acceptable specialization in a field related to the position.
• Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) or accreditation obtained upon completion of a training program for a trade such as:
o general building maintenance,
o carpentry,
o building mechanics,
o plumbing,
o heating,
o horticulture OR
o landscaping.

Degree equivalency

Asset Experiences
• Experience operating farm equipment.
• Experience using a building management system.

Asset Knowledge
• Basic computer knowledge, particularly the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) in order to use a computer.
• Knowledge of the operation and use of tractor-mounted equipment used for snow removal.
• Knowledge of the general and basics principles of
o plumbing,
o building mechanics,
o carpentry OR
o electricity.

• Ability and willingness to obtain a pesticide application certificate.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Ability and willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
• Possession of a valid, class (5) (Quebec) driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
• Ability and willingness to work under various weather conditions.
• Ability and willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
• Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work, such as moderate to heavy manual labour requiring bending and lifting heavy objects (weighing up to 20 kg).
