Duties

The position primarily consists of project-based work developing feature-rich applications using technologies such as MS Power Platform, MS Azure Services, ASP.net, C#, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, MS SQL Server, Oracle DB, PL/SQL, Linux, and Virtualization. Through this position(s), you will become an integral part of our team by playing a key role alongside our team members in taking projects through the various stages of the software development life cycle. You may also contribute to an existing IT product management by doing preventative, adaptive or perfective maintenance on the product.

Intent of the process

Environment and Climate Change Canada is looking for students to join the Corporate Services and Finance Branch – Corporate & Enterprise Products & Services Division as an Applications Developer. This position will allow you to use your technical knowledge, effective communication and critical thinking skills and desire to learn to work on projects that have a real-life impact on our environment.

EDUCATION
The minimum standard is:
Students in their second year or above of study from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the student term positions to be staffed.

AND

Must be a full-time student registered in a post-secondary co-op or internship program that is on our list of validated post-secondary academic institutions and programs: this includes students with a visible or invisible disability, deemed to have full-time status by their academic institution, as well as people participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level.
The work term or internship must be an academic requirement, as determined by your academic institution.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience with software development and using programming languages (includes School projects).

EXPERIENCE
• Experience with Development Technologies (C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS)

Information on employment equity

The positions are available for a four to twelve-month work term(s) from May 2024 to May 2025 for students that have completed their 2nd or 3rd year of computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position(s) to be staffed.

If selected for an interview, students must supply proof of Canadian citizenship and non-Canadian students must provide proof of permanent residence. Students must also supply proof of address. Interviews will assess the Knowledge and Competencies qualifications stated above.

Students invited to the interview stage will be required to provide proof of their education credentials, i.e., their degree or unofficial transcript. Failure to do so may result in you not being considered further in the selection process.

Students to whom an offer is made, will be required to obtain a Reliability Status security clearance (process to acquire security clearance will be specified at that stage).

REMOTE WORK
Interviews will be conducted online. If selected, students will have the option to work remotely for part or all their term. Students that live in the National Capital Region or Greater Toronto Area are encouraged to work on the ECCC premises occasionally.
