🏢 Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is a federal institution responsible for safeguarding our waters and managing Canada's fisheries and oceans resources. DFO helps to ensure healthy and sustainable aquatic ecosystems through habitat protection and sound science. We support economic growth in the marine and fisheries sectors, and innovation in areas such as aquaculture and biotechnology.
Real Property Safety and Security (RPSS) mandate is to ensure the accommodation of departmental programs through the provision of Fisheries and Oceans Canada real property in the Region by providing leadership and expertise in real property planning, strategic investment, divestiture, infrastructure life cycle management, facilities management, environmental management, and employee safety and security advisory services.
RPSS is the custodian of a significant number of assets including the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue stations, Conservation and Protection detachments and satellite offices, DFO office space, laboratories, warehouse and storage spaces, light houses, field camps, fishways, and a number of smaller facilities. The availability of these facilities are crucial for departmental sectors to deliver their mandated programs.
📌 The intent of this selection process is to staff up to four (4) positions on an indeterminate basis in Sidney, Nanaimo and West Vancouver, British-Columbia. A pool of qualified candidates will be created as a result of this process. This process may be used to staff similar positions of various tenures in Prince Rupert, Victoria and/or Cultus Lake, British Columbia.

• Must hold of a valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certification

• Knowledge of the related Codes and/or Standards that apply to facilities operations and management
• Knowledge of health and safety practices, safety regulations and codes pertaining to the maintenance and operations of a large facility including use of PPE and WHMIS regulations
• Knowledge of procedures and best practices for the safe operation and maintenance of building and grounds infrastructure systems

• BOMI Certification
• Red seal trade certification in a related trade including but not limited to any one of the following: Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (H.V.A.C.), Plumber, Class B Gas Fitter, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
• Certification in Horticulture / Grounds Keeping
• Experience providing operations and maintenance services in any of the following environments:
- scientific research environment;
- government building;
- medical facility;
- commercial building;
- industrial building.
• Experience using AutoCAD
• Experience using DDC systems

• To work overtime and/or on standby rotations
• To respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours
• Working at heights and platforms over 3 meters or higher
