Duties

📢 RPSS is responsible for:

• The administration and daily operations of DFO owned and/or leased facilities by providing efficient, cost-effective building management and maintenance;
• Providing a safe working environment for employees and visitors to DFO facilities;
• Ensuring that all DFO owned and/or leased facilities are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations;
• Managing land acquisitions, leases, and disposals for RPSS sites as well as sites for Coast Guard;
• Implementing strategic portfolio planning initiatives;
• Procuring major and minor construction projects for new assets, the refurbishment of existing assets and the end of life of assets;
• Ensuring the accuracy of RPSS data for properties and assets;
• Championing and implementing workplace modernization efforts within DFO; and
• Providing exceptional customer service to our DFO clients (including Coast Guard, Science, Fisheries Management, Ecosystems Management, etc.).

📢 Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is a federal institution responsible for safeguarding our waters and managing Canada's fisheries and oceans resources. DFO helps to ensure healthy and sustainable aquatic ecosystems through habitat protection and sound science. We support economic growth in the marine and fisheries sectors, and innovation in areas such as aquaculture and biotechnology.

Real Property Safety and Security (RPSS) mandate is to ensure the accommodation of departmental programs through the provision of Fisheries and Oceans Canada real property in the Region by providing leadership and expertise in real property planning, strategic investment, divestiture, infrastructure life cycle management, facilities management, environmental management, and employee safety and security advisory services.

RPSS is the custodian of a significant number of assets including the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue stations, Conservation and Protection detachments and satellite offices, DFO office space, laboratories, warehouse and storage spaces, light houses, field camps, fishways, and a number of smaller facilities. The availability of these facilities are crucial for departmental sectors to deliver their mandated programs.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff 3 streams:

⭐ Stream 1: Portfolio Planning and Coordination
⭐ Stream 2: Asset Management
⭐ Stream 3: Accommodation & Real Estate Services

The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates for anticipatory vacancies in Sidney or Vancouver British-Columbia. A list of qualified candidates will be established and could be used to staff similar positions with various employment tenures, security requirements, language requirements and conditions of employment within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
