NRCan has transitioned to a hybrid work environment which offers employees the opportunity to telework and work from the designated work location, subject to operational requirements. This position will require an in-office presence for a minimum of two (2) days a week.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mining engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
-Within the last three years, experience conducting scientific research work or testing in a laboratory, in a field related to the duties of the position;
-Experience in planning, organizing and coordinating scientific research projects;
-Experience in preparing detailed reports and scientific papers relevant to the duties of the position.
ASSET CRITERIA:
- Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position.
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in ground support in the mining industry, either with specialized consulting firms, within research centres or technical universities, with a speciality in geomechanics or rock engineering;
- Within the last three years, experience in conducting technical surveys in the field related to ground support for mining, including instrumentation and monitoring;
- Experience working in an underground mining environment;
- Experience in supervising and training technical staff.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness and ability to travel;
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and overtime.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Of mining methods and ground support technologies used in the Canadian mining industry;
- Of ground support testing methods and monitoring techniques used for both field and laboratory work;
- Of methods and techniques used to describe rock masses, to estimate rock mass quality, to assess tunnels and underground excavations stability, and advantages and limitations of these methods, techniques;
- Of codes, standards and regulations which apply to the Canadian mining industry regarding health and safety conditions.
ABILITIES:
- Communicate effectively in writing;
- Communicate effectively orally;
- Plan, organize, and deliver research studies carried out in both the field and the laboratory;
- Work under minimal supervision to meet project objectives.
