The Federal Public Service is stronger and most effective when we reflect the diversity of the Canadian population we serve. Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) is dedicated to building and promoting a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce, representative of Canadian society. All candidates who believe they are qualified are encouraged to apply, including Indigenous peoples, Black, other racialized peoples, women, persons with disabilities and persons of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The Federal Public Service has transitioned to a common hybrid work model that supports sharing in-person experiences that are essential to cohesive, collaborative, and high-performing organization while continuing to provide flexibility to support offsite work. At an individual level, this is captured in annually reviewed work arrangements with the on-going objective to balance operational requirements with employee individual circumstances and work preference.
In the context of Employment and Social Development Canada’s mandate, most positions are identified as either onsite or hybrid (combination of onsite and offsite work). At ESDC, employees who fall within the hybrid work category report onsite a minimum of two days per week (40% of their regular work schedule), as determined by operational requirements.
Where operationally feasible, ESDC also supports flexibility related to the work schedule including, a compressed work week, varying start and end times, and leave with income averaging.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and could also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements, titles, security requirements and for various locations within Employment and Social Development Canada.

EVALUATION
Persons are entitled to participate in the appointment process in the official language of their choice. Applicants are asked to indicate their preferred official language in their application.
When answering the pre-screening questions, you must provide specific examples to clearly demonstrate how you meet the qualifications. We can’t make any assumptions about your experience. Simply saying you have the required qualifications or listing your current duties is not enough. Instead, provide concrete and detailed examples that clearly explain where, when, and how you gained the experience. It is your responsibility to provide appropriate examples that illustrate how you meet each qualification. We’ll only use your résumé as a secondary source of information.
Candidates must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed. A candidate may be appointed to the position even though they do not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, organizational requirements, or operational needs. However, meeting these criteria may be used as a deciding factor in choosing a person to be appointed.
Asset qualifications, top-down and/or random selection may be used at any stage of the selection process to identify which applications will be given further consideration.
A variety of assessment tools may be used in the assessment of candidates, such as: written test, self-assessment, situational exercise, oral interview and/or reference checks. Note that assessment tools will be administered electronically and virtually.
Any information acquired through interaction with a candidate, during the process, may be used as part of the candidate's assessment.
Proof of your education credentials and, if applicable, proof of name change document(s) will be validated at a later date. If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your credentials assessed against Canadian education standards. The public service will accept any Foreign Educational Credentials as long as they are deemed comparable to Canadian standards, through a recognized credential assessment service. For more information please click on Degree Equivalency.
COMMUNICATION
Candidates will be contacted and invited to assessments via email. It is imperative that you provide a valid email address that accepts email from unknown users (some messaging systems block these types of correspondence). Candidates are responsible for checking their emails, as well as their junk emails, regularly. In addition, you need to inform us of any changes to your contact information. If you fail to follow these recommendations, you may be eliminated from the selection process.
Acknowledgment of receipt of applications will not be sent.
