Duties

Duties:
Participate in fishery monitoring programs for Recreational, Commercial and First Nations fisheries.
Participate in juvenile and adult salmon enumeration programs. Work with Senior Technician and Area Biologist to collect field data and biological samples. Includes assisting with stream surveys, catch sampling, data entry, compilation and review.
Undertake maintenance and repair of vessels and assessment equipment.
Work with external stakeholders and partners to deliver project.
Abide by all DFO Occupational Health and Safety policies and safe work procedures.
Assess stream conditions, collect environmental data consistent with established protocols and ensure stream access and survey markers are in place.
Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to ensure safety and health of oneself and others within the work environment.
Abide by the Fisheries and Oceans Canada Values and Ethics code.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives*
*Employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
1. A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma or
2. An acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Education
Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field.

Degree equivalency

Certification
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency.
Aviation Egress Training.

Experience
Experience with field equipment such as boats and/or motors, vehicles, inflatable rafts, seine nets, biological sampling, or mechanical equipment.

Abilities:
Ability to work in a public-facing role.

Conditions of employment

Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
Health Canada Medical.
Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and evenings for a continuous duration.
Willing and able to work in harsh conditions, conducting strenuous field activities.
Willing and able to work in and around marine environments.
Willing and able to fly in helicopters and small fixed-wing aircraft.
