Work environment

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is following the direction from the Office of the Chief Human Resource Officer on the introduction of a common hybrid work model across the federal public service. This common hybrid work model consists of work on site at least 2–3 days each week, or 40–60% of the regular schedule. Note that this position in Conservation and Protection requires an in-office presence of at least three (3) days per week.

Intent of the process

This staffing process is to staff one (1) anticipatory position in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels, linguistic requirements, or work locations within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

EDUCATION
• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternative (see Note).

Note: The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or alternatives
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations or policies.
• Experience in providing advice and recommendations to clients or management.
• Experience in the use of various software programs for productivity, word processing, data manipulation and organization, such as the Microsoft 365/Microsoft Office suite of programs
• Experience writing technical documents such as policies, procedures, notices, reports.
• Experience preparing, organizing and maintaining records or documentation such as meeting notes, emails, status reports and presentations.

• Experience conducting regulatory inspections/investigations

• Experience in the preparation or review of affidavits or other court documents

• Experience in the interpretation of fisheries-related legislation and regulation
• Experience coordinating projects or working groups
