The EG-02 positions are junior, entry-level positions that provide technical, scientific support to intermediate and senior positions under close supervision for the development, implementation and delivery of a natural resources program or natural resources projects and to support advisors to internal and external stakeholders. Activities include preparing calibration solutions, tabulating data and operating equipment such as densitometers, titrators, gas chromatographs and more.
The EG-03 positions are intermediate positions that provide technical, scientific support to intermediate and senior positions with some supervision for the development, implementation and delivery of a natural resources program or natural resources projects and to support advisors to internal and external stakeholders. Activities build on those of the EG-02 positions with more independence, and the expectation that employees would be responsible for more activities. EG-03 employees would also be expected to help with setup and execution of diverse bench scale research experiments, examples of which are contaminant transport columns, polymer synthesis, catalysts preparation and gas sorption experiments.
Work is performed in laboratories at CanmetENERGY Devon, located a 20 minute drive from south Edmonton. As this position works on-site only, remote work is not a possibility.
Although there is no public transit available, parking is free. You can expect to work in a fast-paced environment work is often conducted under tight timelines. Technologists work directly with other technologists and chemists, and within projects teams of technologist, chemists, engineers and scientists. Research areas are very diverse and include biomass to fuels, contaminant transport/environmental fate, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen production and critical minerals.
The intent is to have an inventory of candidates to draw from when vacancies arise for current and future needs at the Devon (AB) Laboratory or the Ottawa (ON) Lab. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis as long as the poster is active. The immediate need is to staff positions in Devon, Alberta.
Preference may be given to candidates who self-identify as a member of an employment equity group.
