Become a member of a dynamic and evolving Department, helping to manage Canada’s fisheries and safeguard Canadian waters. Fisheries and Oceans Canada employs over 10,000 talented and dedicated employees in over 400 locations across Canada, and our Department is often the only federal presence in smaller coastal and remote communities.
The Government of Canada is committed to renewed relationships with Indigenous peoples based on the recognition of rights, respect, cooperation, and partnership. We recognize that fisheries, oceans, aquatic habitat and marine waterways are of great social, cultural, spiritual and economic importance for Indigenous peoples in Pacific Region, and because of this, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has an important role to play in advancing reconciliation. We deliver funding for Indigenous partners to support sustainable fisheries, build community capacity and assist in economic development.
The Pacific Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative (PICFI) is an Indigenous program designed to support Indigenous participation in commercial fisheries, increase First Nations' access to commercial fisheries in British Columbia and Yukon, and assist First Nations to pursue aquaculture development in the West Coast.
The objectives of the program seek to:
• Build BC and Yukon First Nations communities capacity to fish and to operate commercial fishing enterprises (CFEs);
• Improve the business and operational capacities required by First Nations CFEs and aquaculture businesses to successfully manage sustainable fisheries and to maximize their potential;
• Strengthen community economic self-sufficiency within the framework of an orderly, stable integrated commercial fishery.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals to join our team in making an impact on the lives of Canadians. Come work for a Department that thrives on change, building partnerships and providing a high level of service to Canadians. Apply today!
