Statistics Canada conducts over 2.5 million interviews with Canadians every year. The Data Collection Clerk is part of a team supporting the collection of survey data covering a variety of topics such as health, labor, housing, environment, culture, business and economic. They help produce key information that provides a solid foundation to governments, businesses, unions and non-profit organizations, as well as individual Canadians for making informed decisions
In this job you will:
Be responsible for data collection related activities involving Statistics Canada survey participants across Canada. Daily activities could involve, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
Collecting, documenting, and organizing data:
• Conducting survey collection activities using a variety of interviewing techniques, methods, and formats, such as conducting telephone surveys, and personal visits.
• Updating the content of mail out files, input new case files, survey and other information using computer systems.
• Preparation and completion of reports covering own work activities.
Verifying and safeguarding data:
• Reviewing and editing of received documents and information for duplications, omissions, errors, time frames, and coding and classifying as required.
• Safeguarding and management of the security and confidentiality of data obtained from survey participants.
• Physical verification and listing addresses, e-questionnaire, transcription, etc.
• Performing quality assurance checks and ensuring the timely submission of materials to Regional Offices.
Communicating with respondents:
• Obtaining clarification on data and discussing data inconsistencies, and explaining the role of Statistics Canada and the purpose of the collection.
• Receiving incoming calls from respondents on the virtual call system, to answer questions and/or assist in completing surveys.
• Developing and maintaining good relations with respondents and obtaining agreement on survey completion.
• Updating the content of mail out files, input new case files, survey and other information using computer systems. Preparation and completion of reports covering own work activities.

EDUCATION
Successful completion of secondary school according to provincial standards or approved alternatives. An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may be accepted.
An acceptable combination is defined as: Successful completion of 2 years of secondary school and a minimum of 2 years of working experience obtained through the private or public sector, community work, volunteer work, self-employment or other.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in dealing with the public, either by telephone or in person (e.g., call center, front line customer service responding to requests for information, helpdesk, technical support, etc.)
*Significant experience in the utilization of various computer software packages and applications to perform daily tasks such as launching applications, performing research, opening/closing/locating/editing of documents and/or files, uploading information and running software programs. This may include specialized software & applications, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.), word processing and various research tools.
*Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of activities which are normally acquired over a period of at least six (6) months.
ABILITY
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
ASSET EXPERIENCE (Nice to have)
• Experience in data collection.

• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required
• Reliable telephone service/cellphone coverage at your place of residence
• Mobility normally associated with the possession of a valid driver’s license and the unrestricted use of a vehicle may be required
