Assessment accommodation

❗ Global Affairs Canada will be following the direction from the Office of the Chief Human Resource Officer on the introduction of a common hybrid work model across the federal public service. This common hybrid work model will consist of work on site at least 2–3 days each week, or 40–60% of their regular schedule.

Candidates must answer the screening questions, and these will be the only tool used for pre-selection in this process. Please note that a cover letter is not required.

Answers to the pre-selection questions must clearly demonstrate, using concrete examples (what, why, how, for whom, where, when and for how long), that candidates meet ALL the essential experience and educational qualifications for the position(s) for which they are applying. Duties

The ministerial correspondence editors provide both English and French editing, proofreading and quality control services for the correspondence to be signed by ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries at Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

The intent of this process is to staff 3 positions on an indeterminate basis with PPC/PPC linguistic requirements. A pool of candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various tenures and/or linguistic requirements within GAC.

EDUCATION:

Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or related experience

NOTES:

1. Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.

2. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or, related experience* may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.

* Related experience is defined as experience in text editing.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in editing communications products in both French and English.

• Experience in conducting comparative editing of texts translated from French to English or English to French.

• Experience collaborating and consulting with drafters on edits to communications products.

EDUCATION:

• College diploma or university degree in a field related to the duties of the position (e.g. translation, communications, editing).

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience editing correspondence for ministers, deputy ministers or other senior management positions (Assistant Deputy Minister or equivalent and above).

• Experience using a correspondence tracking system such as ccmMercury.

• Significant* experience in editing communications products in both French and English.

• Significant* experience in conducting comparative editing of texts translated from French to English or English to French.

*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience acquired over a period of two years’ full-time work.
