The Alberta RCMP Strategic Communications Unit is a fast-paced, work environment where no two days look the same! The unit provides communications assistance to all levels of the Alberta RCMP including all units and detachments. The 24 positions in the unit provide a wide range of services for both internal and external audiences including media relations, social media management, strategic advice, crisis communications, communications planning, web support, video productions, and graphic design.

The Assistant Video Technician position provides filming, editing, and audio support to the Audio-Visual Technician for various video related projects. The Assistant Video Technician also has the opportunity to produces various types of video productions on their own. These productions range from internal video messages to public-facing, YouTube videos. In addition to video productions the role is responsible for assisting with the set up and execution of live video events through video conferencing and livestreaming applications.

Intent of the process

This process will initially be used to staff one (1) position on an indeterminate basis, and create a pool of qualified candidates. This pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta (i.e. indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Successful completion of a degree or diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution specializing in audio/video, video production, digital media, radio-television-film, photography or a related field deemed acceptable OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.1 2

1Note: At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met via this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Degree equivalency

EX1 - Recent* and significant** experience operating computers and specialized programs including Adobe Creative Suite and video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.)
EX2 - Experience using video equipment including cameras, lighting, microphones and teleprompters.
EX3 - Experience setting up audiovisual technology for events like media availabilities and presentations.

*Recent experience signifies having performed these duties within the last 3 years.
**Significant experience means full-time usage for approximately 1 year.

AEX1 - Experience working in a policing environment.
